Suicide Hill

Today's workout was a 2 mile run around Suicide Hill. We started at the park at the top and ran down to Oak St, then along Oak to 56th turned left onto 56th and picked up the trail and turned left onto brookside blvd (Trolley Trail) and then up the sidewalk along Suicide Hill. We did this for 4 laps. It was a tough run, but it felt amazing!
I also went into the other shoe store and got a whole new fitting! The Saucony were NOT the right shoe for me! I ended up getting a pair of Mizuno's and they feel AMAZING! I knew it as soon as I slid my foot into the shoe! I did ask if they had the in pink (lol) but as I needed a narrow shoe that one only came in the yellow, which I find funny. I ran in them tonight, and they felt so incredible! Tomorrow is an easy 2 mile run. Then Sunday is a 6 mile run. eeeek!

Mama got a new pair of shoes!

Yesterday was a tempo run. 1 mile warm up and 3 miles at a 10min/mile run with a 1 mile cool down. It was super windy and my para sail like jogging stroller was really hard to run with when it was scooping all of the wind. Anyway.. so we decided to run the "track" (the road around the baseball and cricket fields, next to the soccer fields) clockwise. We typically run it counter clockwise. So when we switched our direction we realized there seemed to be bigger uphills. This is good for our practice, but it was not an "easy run". I finished and it felt good, but my legs were hurting. This is the first time my legs have really hurt. I was getting a cramp in my right calf and shin. I am chalking it up to a combination of my decade old shoes and running hills on Wed.
So I made the decision that I was going to go ahead and buy a new pair of running shoes. I figure if I am covering more than 5 miles a week than I should have a pair of shoes that have more support.
So I go to our local running store. I walk in with all three kids. Pax has a graham cracker to try to bribe her to cooperate. Gryphon is cranky, and Parker is ready to show everyone in the store her new dance moves. I asked all of them to PLEASE just be as quiet as possible and we could get out of there ASAP.
heh
So at first Pax is content to sit next to me and look adorable. (I swear that girl is just like her Mama) Parker is asking if she can sit in the swivel chair and Gryphon is looking miserable. There is an older guy that greets me with a glance at the three children and a slight eye roll. I swear he was trying to look at his watch, but as it was about 8:30, and they close at 9, I am quite certain he knew exactly what time it was.
So he asks me to take my shoes off and walk down a black weird carpet thing. I walk down and back a couple of times and he says I have a slight overpronation. He goes and retrieves a couple of pairs of shoes and hands them off to another guy to help me. (First guy was in the middle of helping another woman). I try on a couple of pair of running shoes and at first I am loving the Asics, but the heel feels a little slippy, so I try the saucony's.  The guy says he can re lace the shoes to help with the heel slip. As he is tying the Asics Pax decides to run out of the store. I have to jump up and chase her out into the mall. I went back to the store and asked Gryphon to follow her around and let me finish. It was a very hard decision. I could tell the guys in there were tired of us being there so I decided to go with the Saucony's. Guy takes the box and goes to the register and then says "Ma'am your baby's diaper fell off." huh? what? really? I lift Paxton's skirt.. .bare ass. Sure enough the pee diaper (Thank all holy beings it was just pee) was lying right in front of the register. My face must have been all shades of red. It felt hot and I needed to leave immediately. Instead of just leaving and coming home and buying the shoes for half price, I paid and ran out of there as fast as my ten year old Nike's would take me.

I got home and wore them around the house. They feel ok, but I keep going back to the Asics. So this morning with some advice from my friend Maria, I called the 119th store , I was too embarrassed to call the ward parkway one after the diaper incident. The guy I spoke with was very helpful! He said that the Saucony was a shoe for a normal foot, not really for over pronation. He said of course you could run in them, but they don't help stop it. He also said that they are for high arches, which I do not have. So he said to come in to the store and bring the new shoes and my old ones so he could check them out and look at the wear. I am going in tonight to get another fitting and see if they suggest a different shoe. If they don't and he thinks that the Saucony is the right shoe then I am going to exchange the ones I have for pink and purple. I am a girly girl. lol

Hills

Yesterday we did hill runs. Basically what we did was go to a local hill.. called Suicide hill. It is quite a steep hill. and we ran up and down 20 times. I didn't feel it anywhere but my lungs. My calves were a bit cranky, but they feel better this morning. Unfortunately we followed up our workout with a trip to Chipotle, then to Foo's Fabulous Custard. All the hill running was ruined by the amazing food! I came home and did some squats and some pike crunches. Today we have tempo runs. Not sure how to do them, but I imagine they will hurt.
Bring on the Pain. lol

"easy run"

Yesterday was a 2 mile easy run. It ended up being about 2.6 miles and the first half of it was tough to get into it. I finally eased into the run and finished strong. My calf was bugging me.. just the one. I need to get some new shoes soon. I have been running in a pair of sneakers that my sister bought for me 10 years ago. Today is a hill workout. I am both excited and a little nervous. I told a woman last night about signing up for the HH 10K and she laughed at me and said she wouldn't do that run as a first run. I quickly explained that I did the TR and then on Mother's day I am doing a 5K.. then the HH run. She said "Oh that's better"

I am the type of person that if you tell me I can't do something I WILL do it, no matter what it takes. It's kind of like toddler minded motivation.

Trial Run

Last night we did a trial run of the course. Uh it has a LOT more hills than I expected! I had both girls in the jogging stroller and it was rough.. so hopefully without the stroller it will be a lot better. I have my packet, complete with bib and chip! I will actually be timed! I am so excited and nervous! This is such a huge run, and even though I am not running it to win it I want to do my best. I am a little freaked out about not being allowed to have ipods! I am still going to bring mine.I have been running to Good Charlotte Little Things and it has such a good rhythm I can set a great pace!Uptown is hopefully going to be at the finish line to take pictures.

I am sad that my mom can't see me do this. She is on the East Coast and can't make it out here. I know she is sad as well. I don't think anyone else gets how important this is to me (Other than Maria and Jessica) My mom is my rock and I guess I am just nervous that Uptown is tired of hearing me talk about it. Poor guy has a couple of runs to get through before this gets old! lol I start training in May for a half marathon. Our first 10K is in June or July... I guess what is important is that I feel amazing! I have found something that I LOVE to do and I am super excited about it!

countdown!

We picked up our packets for the run today. OMG I am so so so so so excited! I am also getting crazy nervous! 4.1 miles FOUR POINT ONE MILES! I am going to run all of it! I hope my knee can take it. I hope Uptown can get good pictures of me crossing my first official finish line! SO after this run, we will run another 5k.... then there is Hospital Hill!
We are going to sign up for the 10k. That gives us 6 weeks to bridge from 5k to 10k. I think we can do it, but the training looks rough! I have to say that pushing the jogging stroller is difficult! So to train for hills and such is a bit tricky! I'll do it! but it is tricky. I am looking at it like it is just a better workout than I originally intended! lol
In October there is the Kansas City Marathon. I am signing up fr the half marathon. 13.1 miles. THIRTEEN POINT ONE MILES! omg I need to go to bed after thinking of that distance! lol

I hope all three of you send me major vibes on Sunday at 8AM! I am going to need it!

trial

So today we did a trial run to see if we could indeed run the 4.1 miles we signed up for. We mapped out our route and started our run.  I completed 4.1 miles in 42 minutes! I ended up running close to 5 miles, but only times the 4.1

I am very proud of myself and my friends that run with me!

continuing

So my eighty4 days are up. I feel amazing! I'll post pictures soon. I am still doing the couch to 5k program and on Sunday I am running my first 5k. It's actually 4.1 miles.. so a bit longer than a 5k, but still! I am also signing up to run a marathon in October. OK a half marathon, but still! So I am going to continue to blog, maybe in 84 day increments? who knows...  So last night I ran the longest I have ever run! 34 minutes straight! It felt incredible! Tonight I am going to take it a bit easy.

Every little bit counts

So does walking around the zoo for 4 hours count as exercise? lol Yesterday we did just that. I had the double jogging stroller and has 5 children with me at the zoo. Jessica and Maria had their kids too. After the zoo I came home and was just exhausted. We skipped the run and I babysat 3 children. After they left I did a Jillian workout, and I couldn't move my arms last night after the workout. They were like limp noodles.

Today I took 4 children to a farm and walked around for 2 hours, then came home and did a C25K run with Jessica. We went to the trail and it was windy. I have a HUGE double jogging stroller (schwinn) and it acts like a sail. So this trail has some small hills and paired with the wind? It was a hard run. I am wondering if I have to do an extra week of week 4, or if I will be able to handle week 5. I am tired, not sore.. just tired. Diet still not great. cycle doesn't help.

off to bed.
